In Kenya, it is the Government policy that all primary schools include special unit classes in which children with various disablities can attend. The classes in which these children learn is often not given high priority, resulting in many of them being in dilapidated conditions. Renovating these classes and making them pleasant to the children and their teachers is one way of showing them acceptance and improving their self esteem. This is one type of type of project RC Kirinyaga has great passion for. To date, RC Kirinyaga has renovated Special Unit classes in three schools Kangaita Primary Gitwe Primary Kutus Primary. Nyangati Primary. at an average of 2,500 USD per class. Funding for this work comes from the District Designated Funds (DDF), in addition to the clubs own fundraising.
This public school services the children of Kadawa Community. It currently has 250+ children enrolled from pre-primary to Grade 8. it has dilapidated classes, rough group benches for chairs and no staffroom or admnistration block. RC Kirinyaga is looking for partners to turn this around and provide the minimum comfort to the children while learning. This project is estimated at Ksh 10,000,000 (USD 100,000).
