The Rotary Club of Kirinyaga, in partnership with the County Department of health and a number of sponsors, notably KTDA Region II, zone 5 conducts a medical camp in Kirinyaga every October global Breast Cancer awareness month. By so doing the Club supports the Department of Health to conduct the screening and other priority conditions; including non-communicable disease such as diabetes and hypertension. During this occasions, community education and nutrition counselling are among other services provided. So far, five(5) such camps have been conducted since 2015. the average attendance is 2000 persons.
One team visited Kerugoya Prisons, where after the handing over of items they planted trees. One prisoner who spoke on behalf of the rest, appreciated the thought of R.C Kirinyaga visiting. Some have been condemned by the society including their own families. Another team visited St.Marys Home for the aged- Sagana. The home hosts eldery women. It is R.C Kirinyagas tradition to share early chritmas with the grandmas. Unfortunately in 2020 due to covid 19 we couldnt cook and share a meal with them. The catholic sisters received the detergents, food, clothes and individual "kikoi/shawl" gift for each granny on their behalf. From a distance the grannys appreciated, ululated and spoke blessings for being remembered in their sunset years. Thank you the projects team, each rotarian, prospective rotarians and friends of rotary for making this project a success.
